Azzuri De Carlton

Fisher Classics have created a set of 10 artworks that explores the Carlton team of the 80’s.

This was a dominant and successful period for the club of the Navy Blues.

We’ve chosen to print and post these artworks around Carlton and the city to provoke discussion about artwork and storytelling in sport.

These artworks are inspired by Italian Sporting Magazines of the 70’s and 80’s and associated fan culture.

This nod to the local Italian influence on the club sits amongst brutalist feeling deliberately deployed by the artist;

‘In the 1980’s Carlton were not ruthless. They were brutal. …They also happened to be brilliant.’

Fisher Classics artist have proudly used textures from the stands of Princes Park to create these artworks.

Dominant players with iconic nicknames are celebrated in this playful and interactive series on display in inner Melbourne in late May and early June of 2023
